The Salesian Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Shillong Province launched its three-year preparation for the centenary of the arrival of the Pioneers to Northeast India on 10 December 2020 at FMA Outreach, Lumshyiap – Shillong.
A meaningful prayer service that recalled the challenges, struggles and indomitable faith of the six pioneers who arrived at Guwahati on 8 December 1923 was the main focus of the celebration. Present for the occasion were the Provincial Council Members, Animators of the thirty communities of the province, Sisters from the Shillong houses, Novices and representatives of the Salesian family.
In her inaugural message, Sr. Elizabeth George, the Provincial invited the Sisters to strive for missionary fruitfulness in the various apostolates that spans through the states of Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura and some parts of Assam.
Fr. A. L Jose SDB, delegate for Salesian Family, Shillong Province addressing the gathering reminded them the goal of the mission namely salvation of souls.
