International Women’s Day Celebrated

Mazzarello, Jowai had its share of celebrating “Women’s Day”. Besides offering prayers for all women, it was wonderful to have the gents teacher organise a small function to honour the women teachers during the afternoon assembly.

After the festal song all women teachers were presented with flowers after which Sir Paulinus Kharmudai read a eulogy on women and their qualities. Sir Terrence Sawian then picked up and wished all the girls too, the future women. Giving some practical examples he showed the girls how they should protect themselves through the style they choose to wear their clothes, postures etc… Sr. Rosina Susngi spoke on the beauty of being a woman, laying stress on Rabindra Nath Tagore oft quoted saying: “The hands that rock the cradle rule the world”. Calling the student girls, the little women she went on to explain another very popular saying “Behind every successful man there is a woman and vice versa”. The girls were made to understand that theirs is a very noble and serious obligation and they should look up to Mother Mazzarello, patroness of our school and ‘a woman for all times’. Sr. Marwein Esther put in a few more exhortations to the girls to understand and put into practice all that was said today. The function ended with a hymn to Mother Mazzarello.

Later in the evening, the boarding girls had their share of women’s day celebration. Between songs and declamation they presented the figures of women who were icons in various fields, some of whom had defy their incapacities to build a new vision and a launching pad for others. Lastly they presented Our Lady as the ideal woman, a point which was taken up by Sr. Rosina at the goodnight thought.
