Blessing from above – a new residence for Auxilium Agartala

The new building that will house the Sisters and the young people has now become a home with the inauguration and blessing of Auxilium Home Agartala on 19 May 2019. Sr. Elizabeth George FMA, Provincial of Shillong Province and Sr. Alphonsa Kurisinkal FMA, Provincial of Guwahati Province jointly inaugurated the house. Rt. Rev. Bishop Lumen Monteiro, CSC, Bishop of Agartala blessed the new home for the Sisters and the young people amidst cheers of gratitude and joy which resounded in hymns and prayers.

The well-prepared ceremony for the blessing gave a fitting thanksgiving, praise and glory to God who made all things beautiful for the ones who trust in Him. The slogan that runs across the ceremony was “The Lord himself will build a house for us” (2 Sam 7:11). The Prelate in his introductory talk noted the focus given firstly to the mission and only now after nineteen years the Sisters thought of a house for themselves. After the solemn blessing of the new house and the entire campus with the help of other priests present for the occasion, the assembly moved to the auditorium for the Holy Eucharistic celebration. The liturgy and the choir with its voices and music made the celebration a very devout and meaningful one. Bishop Lumen in his homily acknowledged the contribution the Sisters make in the field of education and he expressed his joy at every occasion he visits the institution. Being the only School for girls, he applauded the values imparted to the young minds. In her speech, during the moments of felicitation, Sr. Celine D’Cunha, Animator and Director highlighted the teamwork that reigned in the community and also commended the sacrifice and dedication of the Sisters without any word of complaint in combatting the heat or any other privation. They all worked with one heart and mind in achieving the goal of education for the young entrusted to their care. She also mentioned that the construction work of the new house took them three years in which they all plan and decide together in order to emerge to its successful completion. The contractors and site workers too were acknowledged and felicitated.

The momentous day was blessed with the presence of many people who made significant contribution to the realization of the presence of the Sisters at Nandan Nagar, Agartala. Among them was Sr. Ivy D’ Souza the then Provincial of the undivided Shillong Province when the project was initiated, Sr. Alphonsa Kurisinkal, who was the Superior at Pathaliaghat in the years 1998-1999 who saw to the purchase of the land and doing the groundwork, Sr. Christina Kharkongor, the first Principal who starting staying in the land in the year 2000 and who began the school in the year 2003 with 43 students. The joy was redoubled with the presence of Sr. Elizabeth George, Provincial, the Provincial Councillors, Sisters who have come other communities of Meghalaya and Tripura and a gathering of a sizeable number of Priests, religious men and women from the nearby communities, Salesian Cooperators, past-pupils, friends and well-wishers. The day concluded with a family meal shared in the open air coupled with the soothing and gentle touch of the breeze after a drizzle of rain.
